What are the differences between mountain bikes and road bikes?

The flower drums of mountain bikes and road bikes are different in the following aspects:

Design concept:

Mountain bike: The design pays more attention to durability and waterproofness, so as to adapt to complex off-road conditions, such as muddy and humid environment.

Road bike: The first consideration is the lubricity and weight of the flower drum, so as to reduce energy loss, improve riding efficiency and meet the needs of high-speed riding on flat roads.

Structural features:

Tower foundation: The tower foundation of a road bike is generally smaller than that of a mountain bike, and the design is lighter, so as to reduce the weight and wind resistance of the car. Mountain bike flower drum tower base is relatively thicker to withstand greater torque and impact.

Axis and installation size: The installation size of the rear hub of road vehicles is traditionally 130 mm, and now the disc brake road vehicles usually adopt the barrel shaft size of 12 mm× 142 mm. The mounting size of the rear hub of mountain bike is generally 135mm, and there are many specifications for the barrel shaft of mountain bike, with the front wheel having a diameter of 15mm or 12mm and the rear wheel having a common diameter of 12mm. There are also some special specifications such as Boost (110mm for front wheel and 148mm for rear wheel) and Super Boost (157mm for rear wheel).

Spokes: In order to balance the weight and strength of mountain bikes, many high-end finished wheelsets adopt variable diameter spokes, flat spokes, aluminum spokes, hollow aluminum spokes, etc., and even some wheelsets have different numbers of spokes on the left and right sides to reduce the deflection. The spokes of road vehicles are usually thinner, and they pursue lightweight and aerodynamic performance, and reduce wind resistance as much as possible on the premise of ensuring strength.

Material selection:

Mountain bike: In order to ensure strength and durability, the material of flower drum is usually strong, such as high-strength aluminum alloy or steel, to withstand greater impact and torque.

Road bike: While pursuing lightweight, it also pays attention to the strength and rigidity of materials, and often uses lightweight aluminum alloy, carbon fiber and other materials to reduce the weight of the car and improve the riding speed.

Performance requirements:

Mountain bike: It needs to bear large impact and torque, so it requires high strength and rigidity of the flower drum, and can adapt to complex terrain and fierce riding methods, such as jumping and downhill.

Road bike: The flower drum needs to have good lubrication and low rolling resistance to ensure smooth rotation on the flat road and improve riding efficiency, and at the same time, it also has high requirements for the lightweight of the flower drum.

Design:

Mountain bike: The appearance of flower drum is usually thick and thick, giving people a strong and durable feeling to match the overall style and performance requirements of mountain bike.

Road bike: The design of flower drum is often more concise and exquisite, focusing on smooth lines and aerodynamic performance to reduce wind resistance and improve riding speed.
